About Nuru Ya Zanzibar

Nuru ya Zanzibar is a small bungalow-style property in Pongwe on the east coast of Zanzibar.
We began welcoming guests in 2025 with a simple aim: to provide a comfortable, welcoming place where travellers can relax and discover Zanzibar at their own pace.
Nuru is a Swahili word meaning “light” — a name that reflects the warmth and positive experience we hope our guests take home with them.
Our Story
Welcoming Travellers to Zanzibar
The owner, Michaś (Michael), lives in Zanzibar and is also involved in local tourism through Mashili Tours & Safaris, a registered local tour operator offering Zanzibar tours, Tanzania safari experiences and airport transfers.
Through his work with visitors, Michaś has developed a strong understanding of what travellers want from their time in Zanzibar: a warm welcome, comfortable accommodation, helpful local guidance and the opportunity to experience the island beyond the hotel.
That spirit is at the heart of Nuru.
